Taking Back Sunday- Taking Back Sunday
Review By: Jen Windland
This band never ceases to amaze me. Taking Back Sunday is twelve years old, five albums deep and still throwing out meaningful, really-makes-you-feel tracks. Take, for example, 'Faith (When I Let You Down)', the second song on the new self-titled album. The lyrics touch upon topics that plague today’s younger generations: the loss of faith in anything and everything you can give up on, and the plea not to lose it in who mean the most to you (because they’ll let you down the hardest). 'It Doesn’t Feel A Thing Like Falling' is my album-fav, with the best string of words that makes a listener feel. Music is no good if it doesn’t stir all those pesky feelings. I have always loved the lyrics TBS produces, and when they bring back the sound of their first two albums in this newest one, it’s just one big orgasmic experience for me –that’s the best way to describe it.
After New Again I was ready to put away my TBS tees and roll up my posters, but when the boys break out the old-school sound I get re-hooked. Now, that being said, the newest album is not completely a copy of Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want To Be (thank God). The boys meshed the old and new TBS into one extraordinary album. You know it’s good when I'm actually going to pay for it rather than download it free.
'Money (Let It Go)' is ironic for the times and 'This Is All Now' speaks to my heart, because everyone has had that I’m-sick-of-your-bullshit moment. Taking Back Sunday, the album is growing on me the more I listen to it to write this review (which is the longest one I’ve done so far, I think) and I have no intention of turning it off any time soon.
Taking Back Sunday truly proves that "sometimes it takes some time to remember where you were headed in the first place and the people you intended to go there with..." 'You Got Me' guys, I can’t wait for the tour to come around.
Taking Back Sunday hits stores and online June 28th but if you can't wait that long, like I couldn't, the album is currently streaming on their Facebook page. The band is currently on tour with Thursday, Colour Revolt, The New Regime*, and We Are the In Crowd*.
