Saves the Day- 1984 EP
Review by Jen Windland
When iTunes picked a genre for Saves The Day, they must have been picking from a hat. This emo band under the label of rock has been around for a while, having released their first album in 1994. Their newest EP ‘1984 EP’ is short and sweet, the way an EP should be. Five songs, two acoustic, two electric: ‘Hold’ takes us back to simpler times, before life got real and complicated with lyrics about examining “the planet of my town” and ‘Driving Through The Dark’ speaks of love and the way it becomes the most important thing, even annoying and all-encompassing. Smart choice to put it in an acoustic set. ‘1984’ was as rock as the as the album got, the only song worthy of the genre title.
A very simple EP with simple drumming and emotional lyrics that cut to the bone but bring us back; not bad, but not my cup of tea.
