An interview with Brad and Pete of This Time Next Year is now up from when we spoke with them at the Philadelphia, PA date of the Pop Punk's Not Dead Tour. Check out what they had to say about their new album, crazy tour stories, and the state of the music industry here.

Photos of This Time Next Year, Man Overboard, The Wonder Years, Set Your Goals, and New Found Glory are now up from the Philadelphia, Pa date of the Pop Punk's Not Dead Tour. Be sure to make it out to this tour if it comes by you, it's sure to rock your socks off among other things. The energy of the bands on this tour is unlike anything that I have ever seen and the crowd, at this date at least, was absolutely insane. This tour really does prove that pop-punk is not dead, it's not even close.

Last Wednesday, October 19th, the Time Travel Tour stopped at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA. This tour, featuring Carter Hulsey, Fake Problems, A Rocket To The Moon, Plain White T's, and Never Shout Never, was certainly a blast from my past. This tour took me back at least four years to when I actually listened to this kind of music and, oddly enough, I was totally okay with that.
First up was Carter Hulsey. While I have been to a show in which he was on the bill, this is the first time that I actually saw him perform. Carter puts on a fairly decent show, though he is pretty generic. The crowd seemed to really like him though, which is a big plus for him.
The guys in Fake Problems certainly have that personality thing going for them, if nothing else. Other than their on stage presence, I don't really remember much of their performance. They just didn't really stand out all that much to me.
When A Rocket To The Moon came out is when I really started flashing back to three or four years ago. When I had actually listened to these guys, I unfortunately never had the chance to see them live. Seeing them perform was like fulfilling my inner 15 year old. They of course did not disappoint. They performed all of their fan favorites and the crowd went absolutely wild. A Rocket To The Moon puts on a stelar performance and I would love the opportunity to see them again.
Plain White T's were also another huge flashback for me. I was absolutely shocked at how many of their songs I actually knew, and how many of their songs are actually on the radio. Some of their songs, I honestly didn't even know were theirs, so it was a huge surprise to me. I had totally forgotten how quality of a band the Plain White T's are and I I'm very happy that I had the opportunity to see them. They are honestly the best band on this tour and probably should have been headlining the entire thing.
I don't think I will ever understand the appeal of Never Shout Never. Sure, the songs are cutesy but the live show just doesn't add up. For how happy the songs are, Christofer Drew seems miserable on stage. He just doesn't have the kind of stage presence that really demands and energizes the crowd, though the crowd was going crazy. For whatever reason, he was also 'smoking' one of those electronic cigarettes on stage, talk about tacky. I can see how his songs are popular but I also think that Never Shout Never is just a phase 'band' and will fizzle out in due time.
Check out some photos of Carter Hulsey, Fake Problems, A Rocket To The Moon, Plain White T's, and Never Shout Never from the Time Travel Tour.

This past Monday, October 17th, the Noise Tour made their stop at the TLA in Philadelphia, PA. This tour, featuring The Make, There For Tomorrow, You Me At Six, We Are The In Crowd, and Mayday Parade, certainly kept to its name and stirred up a lot of noise.
First up was cutesy indie band, The Make. They had that indie chick playing piano/synth, with a second singer thing going on. They were good but very generic and easily forgettable. The crowd seemed pretty into it though, which was great.
The second band of the night was There For Tomorrow. I can honestly say that I was shocked that they were playing second. There For Tomorrow is just such a talented band and they're fantastic live so I was sure that they would have been going on later. Their performance did not disappoint, and certainly left me wanting more. They played a couple of tracks off of their latest album and also did a couple of throw backs, which I was very happy to hear. There For Tomorrow are such a quality band and they really deserve all the attention in the world.
All the way from Surrey, England, You Me At Six blew up the stage. They had such great energy and kicked off their portion of the tour in the US in the right way. They had the crowd going absolutely wild and that energy was welcomed with zeal. If you haven't check out You Me At Six yet, you should do so. They're really going places.
The energy that the folks in We Are The In Crowd is absolutely incredible. They hardly kept still their entire set and had the crowd moving along with them. The crowd for WATIC was certainly going crazy the entire set but then when Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low walked out on stage, the entire place erupted. Alex gracefully came out and sang guest vocals on the band's most recent single, Kiss Me Again, and he did a fantastic job. Before the show, we had the opportunity to talk with Tay and Jordan so keep a look out for that interview in the next couple of days.
It had been about four years since I had last seen Mayday Parade so I thought I had known what to expect. However, I was totally wrong. The band has certainly improved upon their live show. They played a great mix of old and new songs that should leave any Mayday fan happy and excited for the next show.
In all, I would suggest checking out this tour if you're a fan of pop-rock and cutesy lyrics. All the bands are good in their own right and the bill flows together quite well. Check out some photos of The Make, There For Tomorrow, You Me At Six, We Are The In Crowd, and Mayday Parade.

Last Thursday, October 13th, Moving Mountains, O'Brother, La Dispute, and Thrice played to a highly energetic crowd at Philadelphia's Electric Factory. Each band displayed an energy that left me envious and they each put on a fantastic performance each in their own right.
Westchester, NY rock outfit, Moving Mountains opened the show with a wonderful display of talent. I had never listen to the band prior to this show and I was very impressed with what they brought to the stage. While the crowd wasn't all that big when they took the stage, they played as if they were playing to a packed room. This is a band that definitely gives their all to their live performance and I can only assume that their recorded music is just as invigorating.
Having photographed O'Brother in the past, I was really excited to see them again. The kind of music that they are making is very interesting to me and they way that they pull it off live is just as incredible. I was definitely not disappointed with their performance and cannot wait until they come through the area again.
I think that I was honestly most excited to see La Dispute at this show. From listening to them, I could tell that their live show would be insane and I was most definitely not disappointed in the least. Their singer was all over the place, including in the crowd, and was difficult to keep track of at some moments. I honestly wish that I had that kind of energy. This is a band that really leaves themselves on the stage and gives their performance everything that they can possibly give. This is certainly a band that you're going to want to keep an eye out for.
By the time Thrice took the stage, the Electric Factory had filled out nicely and the energy of the crowd was electric. The band took stage and everyone went insane, and within good reason. Thrice puts on an incredible show to say the least. While their lighting was not what I would have hoped it would be, it was still decent enough to get the job done. They played a good mix of all their songs and I don't think that anyone in the crowd left disappointed.
If you have the chance to check out this tour, do it. All of the bands on this tour are incredibly talented and deserve all the support that they get. Make sure to check out some photos of Moving Mountains, O'Brother, La Dispute, and Thrice from the night!

Last Friday, October 7th, The People and Things tour featuring Jack's Mannequin and I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business (Ace Enders) made their stop at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ. To say that the night was saturated with talent would be an understatement.
First up was Ace Enders. You may know him from the Early November or one of his various side projects. Going into this show, I wasn't sure who would be opening but I was more than happy to find out that it was Ace. He is probably one of the most talented musicians that I have had the fortune to watch perform. He opened with two tracks off of his latest release, Gold Rush, which absolutely floored me. The way that he performs is absolutely astonishing as he records each individual part of the song and then puts it on a loop, literally building the various aspects of the song right in front of you. I find this technique absolutely incredible and creative. I wish more artists had that creative aspect to their live show, it makes each show unique and therefore giving each audience member their own experience. Needless to say, if you ever have the chance to see Ace Enders perform I highly suggest that you do. You won't be disappointed.
Ace Enders certainly set the mood for a great set for Jack's Mannequin. Having never seen them live before, except for a short set at Bamboozle three years ago, I was thoroughly impressed. All of the guys in that band have incredible energy, especially singer Andrew McMahon. That man was literally all over the place, I can only dream of having that kind of energy. It was obvious that he puts everything that he has into his performance and therefore puts on quite the amazing show. At one point he was even standing on top of the piano that he had on stage! They played a good mix of all three of their albums and brought some nice California vibes to the otherwise chilly East coast.
In all, I give this tour an A+. It is most definitely worth going to a show near you just to see how incredible the artists are. Both groups are absolutely inspiring and I hope that I'll be able to see them again sometime soon. Be sure to check out some photos of I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business and Jack's Mannequin from the night!

This past Thursday, October 6th, Bayside and Saves the Day kicked off their co-headlining tour in Philadelphia, Pa with support from I Am The Avalanche and Transit. Right off the bat I knew that this tour would be something that I would not want to miss, and I was most definitely correct in that assumption.
Even though Transit was the first band to take the stage, they certainly had a decent amount of fans in the crowd that screamed along with the words. Having just released their third full length, Listen & Forgive, the band made sure to play a couple of tracks off of said album but they certainly didn't forget any of the crowd favorites. Having seen Transit before with Less Than Jake, I felt that I would know what to expect from their performance but the months since last seeing them, their live show has certainly gotten even better. The passion that the guys display on stage is absolutely exhilarating. Transit is definitely a band that you will want to keep your eyes out for, I get the feeling that they have the potential to be something big.
The crowd in the Troc was more than ready for what I Am The Avalanche was going to bring to the stage when they finally came out. While the bands name sounded very familiar to me, I never actually listened to IATA. I was more than happy with what the band had to offer. The bands energy was incredibly contagious and I don't think that singer, Vinnie Caruana, stopped moving for one moment. The band is set to release their first full length since 2005 on I Surrender Records entitled, Avalanche United, on October 11th.
While I haven't really been listening to Saves the Day for all that long, I have wanted to photograph them in the worst way for a while now. Being right up in front of them, even if it was only for three short songs, felt unreal to me. This being the third time I've seen the band, I feel like I actually finally saw them. They truly put on an unreal performance. The crowd was equally as enthused as the band themselves. They jumped and screamed and pushed like there was no other moment but that one, there was nothing else but them and the music and maybe there wasn't anything else. While watching Saves the Day perform, I feel like I may have had a personal epiphany. This band has been around for almost as long as I've been alive and while there have been thirteen member changes the core of the band has remained the same, the music has evolved but at the same time it has remained constant. That's the really great thing about music, it never really changes. Saves the Day has influenced so many of the bands that I listen to today. For their set, the band played a healthy mixture of their material, including some tracks off of their latest record Daybreak. Stay tuned in the upcoming days for the interview that I did with singer Chris Conley and guitarist Arun Bali.
Bayside has never been a band to disappoint me with their stage presence, and this show was no different. It's really great to see a band that clearly enjoys what they do for a living. They of course played their singles but also made sure to include as many crowd favorites as time would allow. It never ceases to amaze me just how much energy the guys in Bayside really have. It honestly got a little bit difficult to keep track of them all. If you have yet to see Bayside live, I highly suggest you do so. They put on such a great live show and they're such a fantastic band in general that it would be a shame to miss them.
In an unfortunate memory card malfunction, I ended up losing all of my photos from the night except for those I took of Bayside. Those photos can be seen here. Make sure to check this tour out if you get the chance to, it really is incredible seeing as Bayside and Saves the Day are such influential bands in the genre.

Minus Sound Research 6: Visual Art by Local Musicians
Article by Virginia Marshall
Interested in supporting the arts in North Carolina, checking out some unique pieces of artwork, and hearing great music while you're at it?
Every year, the organization Minus Sound Research, started by Maria Albani and John Harrison in 2006, brings you “music for the eyes” through exhibits of visual artwork created by North Carolina musicians. This gives local musicians the chance to showcase their broad spectrum of artistic talents and creativity in both the musical and visual arts, and share their creations with the community.
MSR is now in its 6th year (thus the name, MSR6), and the exhibit will be located at the Motorco Music Hall in Durham, NC. A few lucky musicians are selected each year to be part of the exhibit and express their creativity through a variety of media sources including painting, collage, metalwork, and more. This year's picks are:
Harrison Haynes (Les Savy Fav)
Dexter Romweber (Flat Duo Jets)
Justin Blatt (Shit Horse)
Missy Thangs (Love Language)
Andy Herod (Electric Owls)
Pete Connolly (Birds and Arrows)
Maria Albani (Organos)
John Harrison (North Elementary)
MSR6 will open on Friday, October 7th, with a free reception from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Music will be provided at the reception by Todd Emmert of Inspector 22, and Birds and Arrows.
Also featured throughout the evening will be A Live Installation by Ginger Wagg from 6pm to 10pm.
Following this reception, there will be an MSR sponsored late show starting at 10:00pm in the Main Room of Motorco Music Hall. Admission is $6. This show will feature the Organos, Free Electric State, and Pipe.
MSR6 will run this year from October 7th through December 3rd. Come out to see fantastic art, hear great music, and support local artists!
For more info, check out MSR6 on Facebook:
