Last Wednesday, April 10th, Andrew McMahon of Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate fame graced the stage of the TLA on South Street. Everyone was in high spirits from the uncharacteristically nice weather outside. The sold out crowd buzzed excitedly during the opening acts, Kate Earl and Erland Wanberg. Both were good but nothing special. It was clear who everyone was there to see.
McMahon came out and played "The Mixed Tape," "I Woke Up In A Car," and "The Resolution." Talk about a perfect combination of songs to start off the night. The setlist was a great mix of Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin songs (although I wouldn't have minded a few more on the SoCo side). Songs like "Punk Rock Princess" and "Bruised" really got the crowd going, with everyone singing along and jumping around. The audience was definitely not shy.
The 3 song encore was nothing short of perfect. During "No Man Is An Island," a couple near the front got engaged and were met with loud cheers from the crowd- what an awesome way to propose! "Konstantine" was my personal highlight of the night. Hearing one of my all-time favorite songs live with a thousand other people all singing the words together was stunning. The night ended with "La La Lie" leaving everybody smiling and satisfied. McMahon's stage presence is unparalleled. If you've never had the chance to see Andrew McMahon live either solo or with one of his many musical endeavors, it's something to put on your bucket list. ~ Tori Powers
